SD-32 Buzz

  • by: Colorado Pols

Jennifer Mello formally announced her candidacy for Senate District 32 yesterday, which was only a formality; we wrote last week that she was running, along with Rep. Fran Coleman, for the seat being vacated by Sen. Dan Grossman.

The real news in SD-32 is that Beth McCann, who lost to Mitch Morrissey in the 2004 Denver District Attorney’s race, has decided not to run for the seat and will instead support Mello. Coleman is furious with McCann over this after supporting her for DA…even though she didn’t do much to help; Coleman promised to deliver Southwest Denver for McCann in 2004, only to see Morrissey win that part of the city by the biggest margin of any district in Denver.

  1. I worked with Fran Coleman on the McCann campaign. Fran Coleman is totally worthless.
Beth trusted her to help and Coleman did absolutely nothing. Nothing. I still remember vividly Coleman promising to deliver her House District to McCann and than watching the results come in and seeing a great woman trounced because she trusted twits like Coleman. I am glad that my friend Beth realizes that Coleman did her no good.

  2. You can hardly blame Fran Coleman for not “delivering” her district to Beth McCann.  An endorsement from another politician and about $5 will get you a cup of coffee from Starbucks.  Without the endorsement, it’s $3.95.  McCann is a bright lady and I wish she’d have run for the seat.  Probably can’t afford to live on the $30K it pays.  Nothing wrong with Mello, but don’t overrate her losing campaign for CU regent.  With the CU scandal in the news, any insurgent would have done well.  Steve Bosley, the man who created the “Bolder Boulder” worked like a dog to win that race.

  3. I think it is safe to say both Mello and Bosley worked hard for the 2004 CU race. But we must keep in mind how much Mello did in very little time. She was picked by the party chair in Sept to fill a vacancy on the Nov. ballot and still was only barely defeated (about 3000 votes if I remember correctly). I think she has earned her “front-runner” statis in SD32.

  4. Jennifer Mello worked her ass off for Beth McCann. Fran Coleman was paid to help get out the vote for Beth. But, Fran Coleman did nothing at all. Everyone who knows what Fran did to Beth will support Jennifer. Remember Fran what goes around comes around.

  5. Fran Coleman is an honorary member of the Republican Caucus. The Republicans play her like a drum. It is interesting that the people who know her best such as Beth McCann will not support her. I still remember the Denver Dems dinner when Beth displayed nothing but contempt for her old friend Fran

  6. don’t discount the ability of Josh Hanfling and his money to win this race.  complacency has lost a lot of races.

If Chris Gates had not tried to make certain that anyone but Wally Stealey was the candidat in the CU Regent race, JM would never have been on the ticket.

  7. If Josh Hanfling runs as an independent, any D, Coleman or Mello, will clean his clock.  Ask Craig Silverman how well an I runs in Denver against a D.

  8. Silverman lost because his TV ads were the worst ever produced in any campaign anywhere. Fran Coleman might actually win the nomination. Fran’s record is so abysmal that anyone will beat her.

  9. Fran Coleman ripped off Beth McCann. A lot of us warned Beth about Fran. But, Beth was too nice. Every single person who helped Beth is now helping Jennifer Mello. They are doing this because they saw first hand the poor character of Fran Coleman.
Fran is also an egomaniac. Fran convinced Beth to put her picture in many of the flyers because Fran told us that she was well known and well liked. Hah — Fran Coleman is a disgrace.

  10. What happened here, did Perlmutter and Holtzman lay off their legions of shills, forcing them to seek work with Josh Whatizname?  Josh couldn’t beat an egg white, let alone “They Call Her Jenney Mellow” or Fran Coleman.  You younger types may not get the Donovan Electrical Banana reference.  Try goodling Mellow Yellow.
